Why Shoes?

For a child in Uganda, owning a pair of shoes can significantly impact their life.

More than 1.5 billion people suffer from soil-transmitted diseases worldwide.

Without Shoes…

Here’s the reality of their lives without shoes in Uganda.

Vulnerable to Disease

Without shoes, children and women are especially vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases like hookworm, whipworm, roundworm, and tungiasis (jiggers). Without treatment, people suffer lethargy, anaemia, and painful infections which can become life-threatening. Shoes are a simple low-cost solution.

No Education

Without shoes, a child cannot attend school. Something we so easily take for granted …  owning a pair of shoes!   Yet shoes give access to education and training.  Providing a child with a pair of shoes is a stepping stone into education.

EDUCATION. DIGNITY. SECURITY.

Shoes also provide dignity and security. As we give shoes, we convey dignity by washing each person’s feet, speaking life and praying over them when they receive shoes.  Also imparting security, as shoes providing safety from soil-transmitted diseases.

Wilson’s Story

Wilson first caught my eye with his cheeky grin when we were teaching the adults and children.  He couldn’t stop smiling!  Wilson is one of the first to receive expandable shoes at Shalom’s Children Project in Rakai.  Wilson lives with his Mother, Milly, as he lost his father to HIV/AIDS. He has 6 siblings which makes it a struggle to raise a family as they are quite impoverished.  Thank you for making a difference.

One Pair of shoes allows Wilson to:

  • Continue in education

  • Prevent curable diseases

  • Show him that he matters
